Award Winning Quarry Splash Park Re-Opens for the Summer

With the start of the summer season almost here, Shrewsbury Town Council has been working towards re-opening the award-winning Quarry Splash Park in time for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

The official opening is scheduled to take place on May 4 at 10.30am.

With a design chosen by Shrewsbury residents and opened by the Mayor of Shrewsbury in 2016, the play area incorporates traditional play equipment such as slides and swings, as well as fountains and water features, which were built in place of the old paddling pool.

The state-of-the art facilities have been recognised as a world-class aquatic space and was honoured by Aquatics International Magazine last year as one of ten Dream Designs from installations worldwide.

To increase the variety of the Splash Park, the Town Council has introduced new features this summer.  A Cosmic Cannon should help to encourage team play whilst the new Fun-brella will provide a shield of water to huddle under whilst discovering the effects of a gentle wall of water.

The Town Council has ensured that the area has had a thorough clean, the mechanisms for the water features have been serviced and their staff have received refresher training in readiness for the new season.

Helen Ball, town clerk for Shrewsbury Town Council, said: “We are thrilled that our Splash Park in the Quarry has become such a firm favourite with our visitors and that the re-opening is now eagerly anticipated each summer.  We are pleased that our exciting addition to the Quarry has become a popular feature as part of the facilities on offer in the park. The forecast for this weekend is looking good for the start of our new season and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’re not going to see the typical British Bank Holiday weather.”
