Mayor of Shrewsbury 2020-2021
As the owner of a small café in the town centre, Gwen is lucky enough to spend much of her working day meeting and chatting with friends and strangers over a coffee. Visitors and local residents, young and old, no day is ever the same
Although born in London, Gwen obtained her degree here, at Radbrook College and her 4 children were all educated in Shrewsbury.
Working in the town centre, means being involved, and Gwen has been an active campaigner on many issues including bus services, parking, & litter amongst others. “We are lucky to live in such a beautiful town, and it’s up to all of us to do our bit to keep it vibrant and evolving, whilst respecting the built heritage, and the needs of traders, residents and visitors”.
Gwen has been a member of the Carnival Committee, Editor of ‘The Villager’ magazine in Bayston Hill, and Chair of Air Cadets 1119 (Shrewsbury) Squadron.
Cooking all week, Gwen has a great appreciation of eating meals prepared by other people. Many Sunday evenings are spent visiting country pubs within a 25 minute drive of Shrewsbury, where the landlord works behind the bar or in the kitchen, serving home cooked food and good ales. “We tell ourselves that we can’t return to the same place within 3 months, so we are always searching for new places to try – recommendations are always welcome!”
Apart from cooking, and perfecting her Shrewsbury Biscuit recipe, Gwen enjoys listening to live music, watching cricket and football, and spending time with friends and family.
