Mousefield is one of the smaller sites managed by Shrewsbury Town Council Countryside team at 0.9Ha.  It is an important habitat though and is a corridor between Castle walk near the river and the fields behind the Wakeman School.

Habitat

The site is now managed as a mixed area of scrub and meadow.  There is also an area of annual wildflowers which are re-sown each autumn by the Countryside Team.  The meadow is cut for hay and collected towards the end of summer.  This management combination creates a mosaic of hay meadow, disturbed ground and unmanaged scrub.

Wildlife

There are numerous records for ladybirds (Coccinellidae) on this site including 2, 7, 10 and 24 spot as well as pine and cream streaked ladybirds.

History.

The site was formerly a landfill tip and later a council materials depot and forms part of the Shrewsbury Town conservation area.

How to get there

Mousefield is located in the east side of the centre of Shrewsbury, off Cadfael Way.

Access

There are grassy paths across and around the site which are generally accessible year round.
