The official opening and ceremonial ribbon cutting at the start of an exhibition in the Community Gallery of Shrewsbury Museum. The exhibition will showcase one hundred years of musical theatre in Shrewsbury, courtesy of Shrewsbury Musical Theatre Company, a not-for-profit community group, celebrating our centenary year. The location is rather fitting, since the building once housed the town's Music Hall, SMTC's former home. The exhibition will feature precious memorabilia dating back to 1923, plus some audio-visual displays from oral history recordings. The exhibition and oral history project has been made possible with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a Community Grant from Shrewsbury Town Council.
We were honoured that Madam Mayor graciously accepted our invitation to attend our Centenary Concert on June 10th. She took time to view the mini-exhibition we held in the foyer, but this exhibition will be larger, with more to share with the people of Shrewsbury and the town's visitors. It would be lovely if Madam Mayor would officially cut the ribbon for us and say a few words to mark the opening of the exhibition and help celebrate the heritage of musical theatre in our county town.
