SHREWSBURY TOWN COUNCIL CELEBRATES STRONG PUBLIC RESPONSE TO CONSULTATION SURVEY

Shrewsbury Town Council has been delighted by the enthusiastic public engagement in its recent survey, which aims to shape future local services. With nearly 800 responses already received, the consultation has garnered significant interest, demonstrating a strong desire for local residents to have their voices heard on key proposals for the future of Shrewsbury.

The survey, which focuses on proposed investments to protect and improve vital “Street Scene” services, such as street cleaning, litter bin management, graffiti removal, and maintaining green spaces, has become a crucial opportunity for residents to directly influence local decision-making.

Alan Mosley, Leader of the Council, expressed his satisfaction with the response:
“We are delighted with the numbers responding to our consultation so far and I hope that even more will take the opportunity to review our proposals and have their say. We are looking to make significant investment stepping up to protect and improve important ‘Street Scene’ functions across the town which are threatened with decline, and in some cases closure, due to Shropshire Council’s financial circumstances.”

The proposals include the creation of a new Neighbourhood Team, designed to address the growing need for clean, well-maintained public spaces. The team will focus on improving the town’s appearance, enhancing the local environment, and tackling issues like fly-tipping, street cleaning, and green space upkeep. These initiatives aim to protect Shrewsbury’s natural beauty and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

In response to these proposals, the Town Council is considering a modest £15 annual increase in Council Tax (equating to just 30p per week per household). This additional funding will allow the Council to make vital improvements that residents have long sought, including enhanced street scene services.

The survey remains open until Monday, January 27 at 9am and residents are encouraged to take part and have their say on the proposals. The final decision will be made by the Council on the same evening, with all responses considered as part of the budget discussions.

Shrewsbury Town Council would like to thank all those who have participated in the survey so far and urges those who haven’t yet responded to make their voice heard. Together, the community can help shape a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Shrewsbury for years to come.
