Naming a new West Midlands Railway train

On Friday 23 September, West Midlands Railway is holding an event to showcase its new Class 196 fleet, which will soon be carrying passengers on the Shrewsbury-Birmingham Line.

As part of the event, we intend to formally name the first train in the fleet 'Charles Darwin' in the place of his birth to reflect the fact that these trains will serve the local community.

We would like the Mayor to join us on the platform at Shrewsbury Station to give a short speech celebrating Darwin's legacy and formally naming the train by unveiling a special name plate.
