Over the course of the day twelve students from ten schools across Shrewsbury and Shropshire take part in three of four science and technology challenges: robotics, forensics, including the use of EFIT software, electric vehicle building and medical diagnostics. They work in teams of three with students from within their school.
On arrival the Mayor will be accompanied to view the activities. This is a competitive event and the pupils are judged by our teams of university students who lead the activities on collaboration and outcome.
Once the company have ressembled at 2.30pm we should like the Mayor to make a short speech of 5- 10 minutes in length to include:
-congratulations to the young people for their achievements, particularly to the members of the winning teams.
-thanks to those involved in organising the event
The speech can include a brief personal word if she wishes. This could include her impression of the event and the enthusiasm of those taking part and any personal reflections on science and technology as a career, particularly if she has personal experience.
Then we would be grateful if the Mayor would present the awards to the members of the winning team for each activity and the overall winning team.
