David has been involved in politics all his life. He was elected Sabbatical Union Secretary at University in 1978 and then to Liverpool City Council in 1980 as one of their youngest councillors aged 25. He went on to work for the old Liberal Party followed by a period in public relations before moving to the BBC as a Political Researcher.
David met his wife Rachael through their work for the Liberals and in 1995 they moved with their two young sons Michael and Theo to North Wales where Rachael became a partner in a law firm. It was at this time that David became a full-time house husband.
When Michael and Theo became more independent David started work for Changing Faces – a charity that campaigns for people with a disfigurement and later worked for Epilepsy Wales as a Volunteer Co-ordinator. In 2011 he was appointed Office Manager for Aled Roberts, the Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for North Wales, based in Wrexham. Later Rachael’s career brought the family to Shrewsbury.
David was made redundant after Aled lost his Assembly seat in 2016 and in 2017 David was elected to both Shropshire and Shrewsbury Councils for Underdale after the retirement of fellow Liberal Democrat Miles Kenny.
Even before moving to Shrewsbury David knew the Town very well because his wife’s family all came from or were based here. He loves Shrewsbury for its history, its architecture, and its environment but above all, for the enthusiasm and generosity of its residents.
