Put Shropshire on the QGC Map - Plant a tree for the Jubilee
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a national project that Shrewsbury Town Council, the Shropshire Lieutenancy together with Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council are supporting locally. It has been rolled out across Shropshire and the rest of the UK during the planting season from October 2021 to December 2022. This will be a long-lasting and valuable way to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. We are keen to help ensure that as many trees as possible are planted for the Canopy in Shropshire.
This initiative will promote the importance of trees for the environment in a sustainable and relevant way and, it is hoped, thousands of trees will be planted across the county as a lasting legacy. Each planting can be commemorated by marking it on the map on the Queen’s Green Canopy website
As from January 2022, anyone in the county wishing to plant a tree at home as part of the Queen's Green Canopy, can collect a tree for free, together with a stake and tie from Shrewsbury Town Council's Weeping Cross Nursery, SY5 6HT. Please reserve your free tree, while stocks last, by filling in the simple form below - PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS OFFER EXTENDS TO ONE TREE PER HOUSEHOLD.
Shrewsbury Town Council will be co-ordinating the distribution of these trees, which will be between 1.75m-2.00m in height and will include the necessary posts, ties and spirals to protect the tree, and will be available for collection from Shrewsbury Town Council’s Tree Nursery, Weeping Cross, Shrewsbury, SY5 6HT. We will confirm when the tree will be available for collection between January-March and September-December 2022, subject to tree availability.
Please DO NOT arrive at the Tree Nursery without prior confirmation.
